Motivational Interviewing Training

I qualified as a Motivational Interviewing trainer in 2006 and I am part of the international organisation MINT (Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers)

My training experience has taken me all over the country, working with a range of Allied Health Professionals from GPs and consultants, specialist and practice nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, therapy support workers and healthcare assistants to personal trainers, social workers and teachers.

MI teaches clinical staff and practitioners a way of working with patients or clients that increases the likelihood of behavioural change. Participants experience MI in action and learn to apply the skills they learn in their clinical environment. Clinical staff report improved relationships with their patients and more effective goal planning and achievement.

I consistently receive excellent feedback – one of my MI courses, which was designed for clinicians working with stroke patients, was accredited by the UK Forum for Stroke Training and Education.

I also offer training which combines Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with Motivational Interviewing to help clinicians plan and support client goals more effectively by focussing on the individual values of the client.

Best course I’ve been on!

Excellent, enjoyable and informative.

I found the information provided and skills learned, invaluable

Great balance between course content and practice.

Acquired Brain Injury and Long-Term Conditions Management

I offer 1:1 psychotherapeutic input for clients with an acquired brain injury, stroke or other long-term physical health condition. The emphasis is on self-management using either Motivational Interviewing or ACT approaches to support clients in making behavioural changes to aid in the adjustment process.

Neuro-rehabilitation

I have over 15 years’ experience working with a community-based brain injury team working alongside a multi-disciplinary team and 10 years’ experience of medico-legal work. I have particular experience of adjustment work, both with the injured person and their family members.

Supervision

I offer clinical supervision to trainees and more experienced counsellors and psycho-therapists. I have over 10 years’ experience with individuals and groups using a multi-modal framework. My aim is make sure you, as a practitioner, are mentally and physically well, resourced and supported to work with all the issues our clients bring.

Training

My training experience has taken me all over the country, working with a range of health professionals both within the NHS and as a private provider. I offer training which combines Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with Motivational Interviewing. This can help clinicians plan and support client goals more effectively by focussing on the individual values of the client.
